Taking a first crack at Golden Globe predictions

Taking a first crack at Golden Globe predictions
One of the glitziest precursors out there is the Golden Globe Awards. They may not be incredibly influential, Oscar wise, but they definitely factor into the race. It’s an interesting situation, one we’ve detailed in the past (and may very well get into again). As such, the Globes get more than their due. Today, I wanted to take an initial crack at predictions for the award, pairing them with my standard Academy Award predictions. A lot of this is even bigger guesswork now, as you’ll see below. Still, it’s worth a shot, right? Exactly. I knew you’d agree with me. Now, we can move on.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (or HFPA) do favor celebrities, so this could end up being a hell of a haul for Bradley Cooper and his filmmaking debut A Star Is Born. There’s a chance that he wins two individual statues, while his film takes another two or three. The Globes have been known to go all in on things. Bank on Lady Gaga winning something, likely in the Best Original Song category, though Best Actress in a Drama is very much in play. If not Cooper’s film, in terms of a big player, the HFPA could be fond of something like The Favourite or Green Book. Watch out for Mary Poppins Returns as well. We shall see…
